Interior design is looked at in so many different ways. Some see it as interior decorating, others see it as HGTV and others have a relative idea of what interior designers really do. But let me clear it up for, the definition of interior design is "a multi-faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment. These solutions are functional, enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants and are aesthetically attractive. Designs are created in response to and coordinated with the building shell and acknowledge the physical location and social context of the project. Designs must adhere to code and regulatory requirements, and encourage the principles of environmental sustainability. The interior design process follows a systematic and coordinated methodology, including research, analysis and integration of knowledge into the creative process, whereby the needs and resources of the client are satisfied to produce an interior space that fulfills the project goals." according to the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).

As for an interior decorator which is defined as "concentrate on the aesthetics of a space, how to pair an open floor plan with complementary furniture and decor accents, or create atmosphere or mood with lighting or wall sconces" as stated by Home Guides blogger Tina Boyle. "Interior decorating is just dressing the space" said Tina Boyle. With that being said interior design and interior decorating is NOT the same, i repeat it is NOT the same.

On the other hand, As for an architect they are defined as qualified professional who designs and supervises the construction of buildings or other structures. Architects main focus is on the exterior of a building while the interior designers work on the interior of.

Interior design is degraded all the time in the work that is done, the definition gets misconstrued and people are not fully aware or educated on interior design. Society sees us as the daughter of architecture or the "female" version of it. I see where they might think that considering that we did branch from architects but we are our own.

Keep it classy!
